Does Every Silver Lining Have a Cloud? from NISE Network.
Resources for K-12 Teachers
Welcome to Nanoscience: Interdisciplinary Environmental Explorations—Grades 9–12
A high school curriculum to help Biology, Chemistry, and Earth and Environmental Science teachers at the secondary level introduce this revolutionary science and technology into their curriculum.
Design Your Own Nanoparticle
So how exactly does one make nanoparticles? It requires dissolving metal salts, adding reducing agents and stabilizers mixed in a particular ratio, and adding heat. This tutorial explains each step as you make choices that will lead to your own designer nanoparticles.
Nano-Toss: Check These Coatings Out
A hands-on experiment designed to demonstrate how nanoparticle surface coatings can change the attachment behavior of nanoparticles to surfaces in the environment and how the coatings will affect where nanoparticles end up in the environment.

Public Outreach
Museum of Life & Science
CEINT is collaborating with the Museum of Life and Science, Durham, NC, to expand public education initiatives. Our partnership leverages the museum’s activities in the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net) Program. CEINT participates annually in the NISE Net affiliated NanoDays and provides hands-on engaging nano-scale science activities at community museums, with museum visitors numbering over 1700 for 2009 and over 2000 for 2010.
Nanoscale Informal Science Education (NISE Net)
The Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net) is a national community of researchers and informal science educators dedicated to fostering public awareness, engagement, and understanding of nanoscale science, engineering, and technology.
Sensor Saturday Academy
The SENSOR Saturday Academy brings students to Duke’s campus for 15 Saturday workshops each year led by Duke graduate and undergraduate students in science and engineering. Middle school students learn about the different research projects across CEINT and the role that sensors play in engineering applications including data collection across CEINT.
Scientifica
Scientifica is a science enrichment program sponsored by the Durham Public Schools to encourage highly motivated students in Grades 8-12 to discover the world of science, pursue a career in this field and succeed in their career and in life. CEINT has partnered with Scientifica to offer summer Research Internships in CEINT faculty labs at Duke for participating high school students.
