Panel Urges Review of Nanomaterials Risks
January 26, 2012
Following the publication of a special report issued by the National Academy of Science calling for increased research into the environmental health and safety of engineered nanomaterials, CEINT director Professor Mark Wiesner was interviewed by the New York Times for comments. Professor Wiesner emphasized the ongoing work done by CEINT and others, but called for an increased focus on the field in order to achieve more significant results from existing resources. Furthermore, Professor Wiesner stressed the need for generalizable first principles that can be applied across a range of materials, as testing each individual nanomaterial for potential toxicity would be prohibitively costly and time consuming.
