CEINT Welcomes 2013 REU Students

Again this year CEINT welcomes a terrific group of summer interns from across the US to participate in the 2013 Center-wide REU program across four CEINT partner sites: Duke, Carnegie Mellon and Virginia Tech Universities and our international partner- the CEREGE in Aix-en-Province France.

(Back Row) Matthew Sweeney, Nadia Shebara, Michelle Laura Zeliph, Eleanor Spielman-Sun, Margaret Fleming, Jasper Louie Sia, and Eric Ryberg.
(Front Row) Denise Lee, Elizabeth Mohr, Alice Wang, Marika Nell
and Amulya Pervaje.

This REU provides students opportunities to conduct research and learn about components of nano-scale environmental research at the international level via the cross-site connections forged by this interdisciplinary program. Welcome CEINT REU 2013 students!

Under the leadership of Dr. Glenda Kelly, CEINT Associate Director and Dr. Lee Ferguson, Associate Professor, CEE and Nicolas School of the Environment-Duke, this enthusiastic group of 12 interns just completed their Orientation Week at Duke and transitioned to summer research sites. This comprehensive Orientation is made possible by the commitment of our faculty who give students a solid introduction to CEINT discoveries through presentations that span cellular, organismal and ecosystem impacts, as well as nano-geoscience. Students' feedback indicate that Orientation was important to give them a robust overview from the outset and also to provide opportunities to form connections with other REU students that help them share research and learning experiences all summer. CEINT REU students will all convene at Duke Friday August 2 to present their summer research to Faculty and their graduate student and post-doc mentors.
