Art of the Invisibly Small

field of 10-nanometer diameter silver nanoparticles

Nanoparticles are increasingly being used in a wide variety of consumer products including electronics, foods, medicines, and clothing. Steep is a series of art projects that explore the physical reality of sensing nanotechnology. Mark Wiesner, CEINT's director and lead scholar in the field of nano science,  serves as a scientific advisor on the project.

Visual artist Raewyn Tuner and mechatronics engineer Brian Harris are working on the next phase of Steep, an effort that brought the New Zealand natives to Duke to learn more about detecting these unimaginably small objects and how they interact with humans, with the environment and with each other.
