Abstract: The properties of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in aqueous environments will be discussed in the context of several interrelated projects:

  1. The influence of CNT surface chemistry on colloidal stability and sorption properties in ideal solutions and under more environmentally relevant conditions
  2. The UV-induced transformations of oxidized CNTs
  3. The influence of CNTs, specifically CNT loading, on the interactions of microbes with the surface of polymer nanocomposites
  4. The detection of environmentally relevant CNT concentrations by monitoring residual trace metal catalysts using single particle ICP-MS
  5. The application of CNTs in low-pressure membranes to enhance water purification
